#1: Introducing Healthier

Welcome to Healthier, I’m so excited you’re joining me here today for this quick intro episode to tell you what this podcast will be all about. After 20+ years of practical experience working to help women get healthier, I’ve learned a thing or two. And this  is where I’ll share it all with you.

Health, especially these days can feel like a complicated puzzle. It can feel like no matter what you try or do you’ll never have all the pieces you need, let alone have them fit together easily. I’m here to tell you it doesn’t need to be like that.

Healthier is about simplifying all the information out there so you know what to do and then giving you the tools to do if so you can follow through.

I’ve developed a 3-step path to bring simplicity and ease back into looking and feeling your best.

The first step is strategy.

What is you very best next step? Sure, we all have a vision of how we’d like to look and feel. But how are you going to fill in the gap between where you are today and where you want to be? Too often we’re trying to do too much at once, we’re trying to go from A-F instead of A-B. When you know the right next step in the the right order for where you’re heading you’ll get there 100x faster. There’s no more jumping from one thing to the next and back again when you’re crystal clear on your strategy.

Then once you know what your next step is you need to make a plan.

Not just any plan, one that actually works given the obstacles and hurdles you face in your real life. Once again simplicity and doability is the key. There is no point having a plan you can’t follow or can only follow for a few days, a few weeks or even a few months. You need a plan that will work for you in the realities of your life and your day-to-day. And it needs to prioritize your health. There is nothing more important that your health. It is the backbone that supports your whole life. Protect this foundation by making it a priority. It’s no good to have a plan with good intentions - oh maybe this week I’ll get to yoga, eat more veggies, get to bed on time. Only to have it all slide to the bottom of your list because of all the competing priorities in your life.

That leads us to consistency.

Or actually doing what you say you’re going to do. Showing up for yourself every single day is how you become comfortable in your own skin. There is no better feeling.

This is my 3 step path to Healthier.

And the goal of this podcast is to share it so you know what to do and follow through. I’m so passionate about empowering women when it comes to their health. You can take back control when you have the knowledge you need. No matter where you are today. No matter how bad you think it is. No matter how good you think it it. No matter where you are you will make choices that are healthier when you understand what your body is trying to tell you and how it works.

With an undergrad in biochem and neuroscience I’m dedicated to sharing factual information with you. I put myself through school earning money working in research labs and I promise to only give you the best information available. Your health deserves educated and experienced information in a time when anyone can call themselves an expert on anything.

The journey to Healthier

July 12 2014 started for me like any other day. I had my dog in the car and I was heading to rock climb with a group of my good friends. The hike it took about an hour or so through a beautiful forest and down some cliffs. We climbed all morning and then stopped for lunch. I’ll never forget putting the last sandwich bite in my mouth - peanut butter and banana because it can get squished and still taste ok.

5 minutes later I was on the ground unable to get up. It would be almost half a year before I would walk again.

Thankfully I didn’t know that at the time, there was a lot I didn’t know and from that moment on my life was divided into before and after. It took a rescue team 7 hours to get me up that 90 foot cliff. Now what does that have to do with this podcast?

The seeds for Healthier were being planted at that time too.

Despite surgeries, endless hours of rehab, and trying my very best. I will never run again. Climb again. Jump again. Or have a pain free day again. I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed in the health care system. I know how hard it is to be looking up at a cliff and feel like it’s insurmountable.

In August 2017, after 15+ years,  I closed the doors on my private practice. Putting my health first was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. I still miss it every day. I worried that I wouldn’t be able to contribute and help women feel healthier again. That kept me trying to stay in practice longer than I should have.

I started working with women online. I’ve had clients from all over the world - it’s truly incredible how connected we can be in this day and age.
